Our History
A century ago, the Ratner, Miller, and Shafran families founded Forest City in Cleveland, Ohio. They became leaders in developing large-scale, mixed-use, public-private real estate in the US—and created some of the country’s most notable and transformative real estate over the past half-century.

The Max Collaborative is owned and operated by members of the Max Ratner family. They are headquartered in Shaker Heights, Ohio and have a satellite hub in Los Angeles. Their work can be found in Cleveland, Denver, Los Angeles, and beyond.

Uplands Real Estate Partners is owned and operated by members of the Albert Ratner family. They are headquartered in Washington, DC and develop rental communities in dynamic markets across the U.S., including Cleveland and Denver.
The Van Aken District
The Van Aken District is a mixed-use development created in partnership with the city of Shaker Heights, Ohio. It is a unique blend of urban and suburban lifestyles in a city deeply rooted in history, culture, and diversity. It is home to the offices of RMS and The Max Collaborative.
